Creativity in the City
This collaborative project showcases how thoughtful design can create a functional yet playful living space that fosters both privacy and personal expression. Whitney Mayer guided the selection of key pieces, including window coverings, furniture items, and custom accent pillows. Hillary Holmes of Hillytree Design curated and styled additional design elements, furnishings, art, and accessories, effectively enriching the overall aesthetic and functionality of the space.
Design Elements
Functionality: Given the home’s urban setting, privacy was a primary concern. Window coverings were the first step of the project, as the client would be moving into the home very soon. Woven Roman shades were chosen for the main living spaces, inviting a natural, organic aesthetic. Custom Roman shades were fabricated in bold fabrics for other key spaces such as the kitchen, laundry room, primary bedroom & bath, and guest bath. Whitney worked closely with the client to select visually appealing, yet functional fabrics to ensure a stylish touch throughout.
Creativity: The client desired a fun and inviting atmosphere, leading to the selection of bold, standout patterns for window treatments, pillows, wallpaper, art, and furniture. This blossomed into a full home redesign with Hillary, filled with vibrancy and creativity for this client and her expanding family.
Key Furnishings and Accents: Whitney helped select furnishings that add to the home’s lively energy, including artistically patterned accent pillows, a well-appointed bed, elegant swivel chairs for the living room, and a welcoming loveseat. Each piece was chosen to resonate with the home’s dynamic color scheme and aesthetic. Meanwhile, Hillary added layers of sophistication through meticulous accessory selection and placement, furnishings, wallpaper, and vibrant paint colors, enhancing the spaces with additional texture and interest.
The result of the design work in this home is the joining of the client’s spirited artistic flair with the practical needs of her family life.
