We had a couple come to us who genuinely believed they had the skill set to handle the design work themselves. They had a real vision and a good sense of what they wanted, and they didn’t think an interior designer was necessary. As part of our process, we assigned interior designers to work with them anyway, to help streamline and focus their ideas.

They’re considering the longevity and durability of a product, its quality, its healthier material characteristics, and how a piece will actually function in a client’s life, not just how it photographs. That’s a very different service than simply picking a pretty sofa.

Who Actually Needs Design Services?

There’s real value in design services for nearly everyone who’s furnishing or refreshing a home. Even something as simple as choosing a paint color benefits from a designer’s input, since color is genuinely a science, and getting it right affects a room more than most people expect.

That said, not every visit calls for full design services. Someone who just needs a single coffee table to supplement furniture they already own may not need the full process. Even then, we have interior designers on staff who are happy to offer guidance on a single piece, so help is available at whatever scale someone actually needs.
