Tori Motyl Artist Reception & Seminar

Tori Motyl will be talking about her pieces and her process of sustainably sourcing local wild clay.

Tori Motyl is a ceramic artist specializing in functional and sculptural vessels. She has been making and teaching since 2011 after receiving her MSEd in Visual Arts from SUNY New Paltz. You will recognize the rough, minimalist influence that she finds so inspiring in the forms of her work. Her work is made from wild clay she collects wherever anyone will let her dig a hole. She uses a variety of throwing, cutting, carving, and ripping to showcase the highly textural properties of the clay and intentionally leaves her forms unglazed. To Tori, “My work is about the authenticity of the materials and the process. It is about saying something with the materials of the earth”. Tori spends her time making art, teaching, organizing the North Carolina Ceramic Arts Festival, and enjoying life in the mountains with her family and friends.
